A green middle stripe which is bordered in white and splits into a horizontal “Y” at the left hoist end dominates the South African flag. This green stripe separates two other stripes of equal width: a red one at the top and a blue one at the bottom. On the left side of the flag, there is a black isosceles triangle which is outlined in yellow. The “Y” shape symbolizes South Africa’s diversity as well as its quest for unity.
